Annika Sorenstam was recently roasted by her son Will McGee, ahead of the PNC Championship. The 27th edition of the tournament will take place at Ritz Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Flordia, from Friday, December 20 to Sunday, December 23.
Sorenstam has competed twice with her father Tom in 2019 and 2020. She has also played with his son twice in 2022 and 2023. She'll again be playing with his son for the third time this year. In the pre-tournament press conference, her son McGee was asked how his father Mike and his mother Annika are different as caddies. Mike said, via ASAP Sports:
"So my dad, he's more like a -- since he caddies whenever she plays, he knows more how to caddie or more like a player. So it's a little different. I'd say Dad is a little bit better on the greens for reading."
Mike also teased his mother about family rules during football season. He further said:
"And then whenever there's football on the weekends, it's like a Sunday, there's football, and so my mom never let me check the scores or whatever, and my dad would. So it's fun."
Sorenstam is widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers of all time winning 72 LPGA Tour events including 10 Major championships. She was a dominant force in women's golf from the late 1990s to the early 2000s.
In the press conference, Sorenstam's son was further asked about his favorite stat about her mom, he said:
"Only female to shoot 59."
Annika Sorenstam has also won 17 times on the LET Tour, four times on the LPGA Tour and seven times on the LPGA of Japan Tour.
Annika Sorenstam says that playing at PNC Championship "is one of the highlights of the year"
LPGA legend Annika Sorenstam became the first woman to tee it up at the PNC Championship in 2019. She'd be competing for the fifth time at the tournament. Talking about the importance of the event, she said, via LPGA:
"It's wonderful to be back. This is one of the highlights of the year. We're so thankful to PNC for having us. It's great to be here in Orlando, (our) hometown, and come in and play here with family and friends. We have a good time."
Sorenstam is competing with her 13-year-old son Will McGee. He was asked what he would take away from the event besides just having a good time as he gets closer to high school golf. Will said, via ASAP Sports:
"It's a big event with a bunch of big players, and I want to see how I can stack up against them with my mom as my partner and just try to do better each year after -- first year I think we were towards the bottom. We jumped up a little last year. Hopefully we're towards the top this year."
