Jackson Koivun and the Auburn Tigers had a successful NCAA Men's Golf Championship 2024. At the event held in La Costa, the Tigers beat Florida State to win the first National title in school history. While J.M. Butler from Auburn was crucial in the final match, Koivun also made a name for himself in the tournament.
After the conclusion of the 2024 NCAA Men's Golf Championship, it was announced that Koivun is the recipient of the 2024 Phil Mickelson Award. For those unaware, the Phil Mickelson Award is presented to the top freshman in the nation. Hence, receiving the award is a big deal for the young player.
This award won by Koivun is the third award he has won in the last two weeks. Before winning the 2024 Phil Mickelson Award, Jackson Koivun was presented with the Ben Hogan Award last week. On Tuesday, he won the Heisman Trophy of College Golf and the Fred Haskins Award.
Many believe the Auburn Tigers golfer also has a good chance of winning the Nicklaus Award next week. Whether Jackson Koivun can win that award or not, he has already had a very successful season, and looking back on it, he will be extremely proud of it.
Jackson Koivun spoke after winning the Ben Hogan Award last week
Since 1990, the Ben Hogan Award has been associated with college golf. This award is given by the Friends of Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America to the best college golf player. Massive names like Patrick Cantlay, Jon Rahm, and Nick Taylor have won this award.
Last week. Jackson Koivun won the 2024 Ben Hogan Award. This honor was bestowed upon Koivun who performed very well for the Auburn Tigers and made quite a name for himself on the college golf scene. When Koivun went up to the podium and collected his award, he spoke about his heartbeat at the moment.
Jackson Koivun said:
"Wow, I think if you could feel my heartbeat sitting in that chair over there, you’d probably think I have a health problem.”
Further, Koivun made sure to thank his parents, teammates, coaches, and his swing coach. The young golfer also spoke about his fellow finalists and competitors. Koivun added:
“Y’all make college golf so good. It’s guys like you who make kids in junior golf really want to get better and play against y’all.”
