Auburn win 2024 NCAA Men's Golf Championship, beat Florida State in final

Auburn won the 2024 NCAA Men's Golf Championship after defeating Florida State University in the finale on Wednesday, May 29. The National Championship concluded its final round this week. Auburn won three of the five matches they played against Florida in the finale to clinch the trophy for the first time in school history, securing a victory by 3&2.

For Auburn, Jackson Koivun defeated Brett Roberts by 5&4 to get the first point, followed by Brendan Valdes winning against Frederik Kjettrup by 4&3. The final point for Auburn was added by JM Butler, who defeated Luke Clanton by 2&1. Meanwhile, for Florida, it was Cole Anderson and Tyler Weaver who won their matches against Carson Bacha and Josiah Gilbert, respectively.

Previously, Auburn defeated No. 3 Virginia in the quarterfinals and Ohio State in the semifinals. Following the victory, Auburn's JM Butler spoke about their incredible game. He said (via NCAA):

“I was just focused on what I had to do. I tried not to get caught up in what he was doing. Luke (Clanton) is a fantastic player and I knew it’d be a tough match today. It’s something I’ve trained for my entire life. All those lonely hours out on the range and just trying to figure it out."

"All I had to do was get out of my own way. I just believed it was my destiny. I always knew I was going to work as hard as I can every single day. It didn’t matter what was in front of me as long as I had my teammates, that was all I needed," he added.
