Collin Morikawa recently shared a heartfelt post on his wife Katherine Zhu's 29th birthday. The duo married in November 2022 and have been married for more than two years.
The PGA Tour player took to Instagram to share a picture of Katherine reclining in a white wicker chair and looking at a phone on a balcony. Along with the picture, he gushed over his wife and wrote:
"Running, reading, crocheting. Not your average hobbies but average isn’t even in your vocabulary. Keep being you, HBD love (heart emoji)"
Katherine Zhu was born in Vancouver, Canada. She played tennis and golf in her early years. She met Collin in 2017 during her time at college. At the time of their first meeting, she was studying international management at Pepperdine University while Collin Morikawa majored in business administration at University of California, Berkeley.
Zhu also played golf during her time in college. It was also one of the reasons why she joined Pepperdine University. She said (via Pepperdine Waves):
"First, I really like Coach [Laurie] Gibbs. I believe all good players have good coaches and I believe Coach Gibbs can help me become a good player. Second, Malibu has great weather conditions, which create a better environment for me to practice. Third, Pepperdine is a small school that is strong in both academics and athletics."
They both got engaged in November 2021 and married a year later in 2022. Both are often seen together at golf tournaments.
Katherine praises Collin Morikawa for helping her believe in herself
Katherine recently praised her husband Collin Morikawa for helping her believe in herself following her participation in the TCS New York City Marathon. She shared a heartfelt moment from the event on Instagram and wrote:
"To the most supportive husband @collin_morikawa your constant encouragement kept me going and your belief in me helped me believe in myself. knowing you were out there cheering me on made all the difference. i love you more than words can say (white heart emoji) #TCSNYCMarathon"
Talking about how she got into running, she said (via New York Post):
"I actually started running last year. I read [runner] David Goggins’ book, ‘Can’t Hurt Me,’ and I decided to try to run one mile thinking, ‘Oh, I’m pretty fit, I could probably do it.’ Could not run one mile without walking, and that’s when I told myself, ‘Okay, I will start running to at least be able to run one mile without walking.’"
At the marathon, she raised awareness for St. Jude about childhood cancer and also helped in fundraising. In another post, she thanked New York Road Runners. She ran 26.2 miles as part of her TCS New York City Marathon.
