Bernhard Langer reflected on his and his son's experience of playing with Tiger Woods. The German golfer recently won the 2024 PNC Championship while playing alongside his son Jason as they defeated Tiger Woods and Charlie in the playoffs.
Bernhard Langer and Jason were tied for the lead after the first round of the tournament on Saturday, December 21, alongside Team Woods. Both teams grouped to tee off together in the final round on Sunday, December 22 and were again tied for the lead after the round. Eventually, the winner was decided through a playoff.
Following the final round of the tournament, Bernhard Langer opened up about his experience of playing with Tiger Woods and praised his son's composure (via ASAP Sports):
"For me personally, it just makes me focus even more so," Bernhard said. "I seem to enjoy that challenge to be the underdog or to play in tough circumstances. It just helps me to zero in even more. But I was very proud of how he (Jason) handled it because, you know, the first time you do that, it's a bit of an out-of-body experience, for many of them, and he didn't seem to be fazed by it. So it's pretty amazing," he added.
Team Langer and Team Woods both shot 57 in the final on Sunday and wrapped the 36-hole tournament at 28-under. In the playoff, Team Langer shot an eagle on par 5 18th, while Team Woods settled for a birdie.
"You have so much fun" - Bernhard Langer on playing at PNC Championship 2024
In the same press conference, Bernhard Langer also shared his experience of playing in the prestigious family tournament. He reflected on his emotions about being part of the tournament and enjoying a memorable golf outing with his family. He said (via ASAP Sports):
"The cool thing here is obviously you want to win but you have so much fun just whether you win or not. You could finish 10th and have a great time just because what the tournament's all about, family and friends; and this time of the year, and it's a great venue and great sponsor and everything," Bernhard said.
"Having my other son, Stefan, caddie for him, and my son-in-law, Chase, caddying for me, and then have my wife here and my daughter, Jackie was here. It's truly a family affair, and that's what makes this event even more special," he added.
This is the sixth time Bernhard Langer has won the tournament. He registered his maiden win at the event in 2005 when it was called the MBNA WorldPoints Father/Son Challenge. That year, he played with his other son Stefan and registered a one-stroke win over Raymond Floyd and Robert Floyd. The next year, Team Langer defended the title and won it for the second time.
In 2014, Bernhard and Jason won the tournament, and the pair again clinched the trophy in 2019 and 2023.
