Social media is buzzing with reactions to Thomas Pieters' move to Dustin Johnson's 4 Aces GC for the upcoming LIV Golf season. As the Saudi league gears up for 2025, roster changes have started.
The first move within teams sees Pieters, who played the last two seasons for RangeGoats GC, joining 4 Aces GC for the 2025 season. Notably, Pat Perez's contract with 4 Aces GC ends in January, leaving a spot vacant on the team. As such, the team has signed Pieters.
Nuclr Golf shared the news about Pieters signing for Johnson's team on its X (formerly Twitter) account, writing:
"The 4Aces have acquired Thomas Pieters from The Range Goats. The move means that the team now has 5 players, but Pat Perez’s contract is ending January 1."
However, fans were critical of the move and jumped into the comment section to react to it.
"Biggest underachiever of them all," a fan wrote.
Some fans called it the "stupidest concept."
"This is the stupidest concept ever. Golf teams acting like football or hockey. They have acquired…. This is why nobody watches this crap," another fan said.
Meanwhile, other fans took a jibe at the series.
"Has absolutely no bearing /meaning to the world of golf. That league is irrelevant. Nobody takes it seriously," a fan commented.
"How can they even take themselves seriously with names like that hahaha. Maybe the rich saudi's got bored of buying every super car 50x over and were like "let's take a bunch of money and punk PGA tour players," a fan jotted.
Here are more fan reactions:
"He’s a great addition"- Dustin Johnson on Thomas Pieters joining 4 Aces GC
Dustin Johnson's 4 Aces GC has been one of the most dominant teams in LIV Golf. They won the inaugural edition of the series and have also been impressive in the last two seasons.
Now, Thomas Pieters has joined the team, and team captain Johnson is excited to have him on board. Speaking about the big trade, Johnson said (via SI):
"Happy to have Thomas on the team. He’s a great addition, great player and makes the team stronger. Really excited for next season."
Thomas Pieters has also impressed with his game in LIV Golf over the last two seasons. He competed in 13 tournaments in 2023 and secured the 33rd spot in the season standings. In 2024, he played for RangeGoats and settled in 30th place in the standings.
He was in the open zone after the third season, and ultimately, 4 Aces acquired him. Meanwhile, RangeGoats will not be receiving any players from the 4 Aces GC but will have the financial freedom to sign other players to complete their roster.
