Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are helming TGL, the new technological golf league set to begin in 2025, where Billy Horschel will be a member. A few weeks ahead of the official start date, their X page gave a shoutout to the golfer and suggested that he gets to speak or perform for TGL events.
Horschel is one of the headliners of TGL. He's on the Atlanta Drive GC. He was one of the earlier commitments to join the fledgling venture from Woods and McIlroy.
The American golfer will star alongside Lucas Glover, Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay. TGL rules state that three of four members will play in a given matchup, meaning there will be some subs.
It's not clear yet what Horschel's role is with his team and how often he'll play when the season begins in January, but he is a big enough member to get a shoutout from the official X account.
Atlanta and Horschel will play their first game on January 21st at 7:00 pm EST. They will take on New York, which features Matt Fitzpatrick, Xander Schauffele, Cameron Young and Rickie Fowler.
They will also play on the following dates:
- Monday, February 17 (1:00 pm and 4:00 pm)
- Monday, February 24 (9:00 pm)
- Tuesday, March 4 (7:00 pm)
Horschel recently got a tour of the facilities, reacting to which he said they were "unreal."
Billy Horschel supports the European Tour
Billy Horschel plays on a lot of tours, including both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. He will add TGL to that list in January. It's not common for American golfers on the PGA Tour to spend so much time on the European Tour, but Horschel does.
He said via Golf.com:
“I grew up watching the European Tour. I grew up envisioning coming over here and playing these events, and even as I turned pro early in my career I still watched a ton of it and envisioned coming over and playing … my college coach said if you want to be a world-class player, global player, you’ve got to travel around the world and play well and you’ve got to win events to consider yourself a world-class player.”
Horschel did also speak non-possessively of the Tour. He called the DP World Tour Championship "their" championship, though he did say he loves the Tour and plays on it frequently.
Billy Horschel said it has made him a better person and better golfer as well. The language barrier with European and other international golfers has helped Horschel grow, and he believes that's not something that is as applicable to the PGA Tour- his tour for most of the season.
