Black Desert Championship mistakenly allows two golfers to participate in the qualifiers

The Black Desert Championship will begin on October 10th at Black Desert Golf Course in Utah. The tournament is making its debut on the PGA Tour as it returns to Utah after 60 years.

However, there was a mistake before the tournament could even begin as two golfers mistakenly made it to the final field of the Black Desert Championship. Chris Korte and John Sand will make their PGA Tour debuts as they earned their spots through the Monday qualifiers despite not being eligible to participate on the day.

According to Golf Digest, it was an administration error from the PGA Utah section. Korte, Sand, and two other players were granted permission to compete in the Monday qualifiers at Sand Hollow in Utah without having an exempt status.

They first had to compete in the Thursday pre-qualifiers to be eligible for the Monday qualifiers. Monday Q Info’s Ryan French and the Golf Channel's Brentley Romine reported this mistake.

This mistake came to light after the pre-qualifier was played last week and the four golfers were subsequently removed from the Monday qualifiers field. However, the PGA Tour intervened and restored their names after one of the golfers reportedly asked for travel recompensation because of their error.

Korte and Sand eventually carded eight under 64 to make it to the final field for the Black Desert Championship.
