Bryson DeChambeau and his Crushers GC teammates may reportedly tee up in India next year in the Asian Tour. As per reports from Joy Chakravarty of Hindustan Times, India will host the Asian Tour's International Series 2025 season opener.
While the official details of the season opener haven't been released yet, the event might be held from January 30 to February 2 at the DLF Golf & Country Club in Gurugram.
The Asian Tour's International Series began in 2022. 10 events were added to the Series. So far, events have been played in the United Kingdom, Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Morocco, Vietnam, Qatar, and Egypt. If the reports are to be believed, this will be the first time an International event will be played in India.
Reporter Joy Chakravarty talked about Crushers GC potentially teeing it off in India next year via his X (formerly Twitter) handle on 29 October 2024.
"The only Asian star contracted with @livgolf_league since the beginning, @anirbangolf , is trying to get the whole @Crushers_GC team to India. Several others also expected to start the week before 2025 LIV season tees off in Riyadh."
Crushers GC consists of captain Bryson DeChambeau, Paul Casey, Charles Howell III, and Anirban Lahiri. Last month, during the LIV Team Championship, Bryson DeChambeau said (via Hindustan Times):
"I am aware that Baan (Anirban Lahiri, who is part of his Crushers team) is going to be involved and we have had a few talks about it. It will be a very important week for him. I will support him fully, and if everything works out, I am extremely excited about the opportunity to play in India. I have never been there, but it’s a country that has fascinated me. I have always loved being a global player and I greatly enjoy playing in as many countries as possible."
The event will be sponsored by DLF and will reportedly have a prize purse of $2 million. It is to be noted that the event hasn't been confirmed yet.
Anirban Lahiri: "It'll be massive for Indian golf fans if Bryson DeChambeau is there"
LIV Golfer and Crushers GC star Anirban Lahiri said that the event has almost been finalized. The seven-time Asian Tour winner Lahiri joined LIV Golf in 2022. He finished 17th in 2022, 13th in 2023 and 16th in 2024. Talking about the possibility of Crushers GC playing in India, Lahiri said (via Hindustan Times):
"I think we are almost there. There are just a few minor things on which we have to dot the i’s and cross the t’s. But yes, I think it will be massive for Indian golf fans if Bryson is there."
Bryson DeChambeau won the 2024 US Open and might become the first reigning Major winner to tee off in India. Praising the Crushers GC Captain for his golfing skills and worldwide appeal, Lahiri further said:
"Single-handedly, with what he does on the golf course and outside it through his social media channels and his interaction with fans, he has brought millions of new fans to our sport. I think we can all agree he is the most popular golfer in the world right now."
DeChambeau also joined LIV Golf in 2022. He finished 21st in 2022, 4th in 2023 and 8th in 2024. He has 13 wins to his name including two Major wins.
The Head of International Series, Rahul Singh expressed optimism about the possibility of bringing the International Series to India soon, saying:
"At the moment, all I can say is that we have had some very good talks. Historically, India has been a very important destination for the Asian Tour."
