Bryson DeChambeau, the 30-year-old LIV golfer from the United States, won the 2024 US Open. The tournament was held from June 13 to 16. DeChambeau carded 67, 69, 67 and 71 in the four rounds of the tournament held at Pinehurst Golf Course No. 2 in North Carolina.

In a post-tournament press conference, DeChambeau regretted changing his driver head 20 minutes before playing the final round of the tournament. He explained the change saying that the face of his previous driver had worn out due to his powerful swings.

"I probably shouldn't have changed the heads. I was trying to get a fresh head in there. The face that I was using for the past three days was just starting to get flat," he said.

DeChambeau had a lead of three strokes going into the final day. The switch to a newer driver-head led to him missing several fairways. He missed nine of the 14 fairways in the final round.

"It had a good curvature on the face, but it was a little bit lower loft. For whatever reason, those lower lofted heads have been missing right. Consequently I missed it right all day," he added.

Despite DeChambeau's driving issues, he hit 11 of 18 greens in regulation which helped him score 1-over 71 in the final round to win over Rory McIlroy by one stroke. Regarding hitting just five of the 14 fairways, he said:

"I was driving it well on the range. On the golf course nerves got to me a little bit. I wasn't as comfortable with it. Probably needed to work it in more, more than just hitting five balls with it."

DeChambeau scored two birdies on the 10th and 13th holes and three bogeys on the 4th, 12th and 15th holes. DeChambeau won $4.3 million by winning the competition, also earning exemption into future Major tournaments.
