Bud Cauley has returned to playing full-time on the PGA Tour following a series of injuries. With the 2024 World Wide Technology (WWT) Championship at the El Cardonal, Diamante in Los Cabos, Mexico, set to tee off in less than a day, the 2009 Palmer Cup star has taken himself off the field in the battle for a share of a grand prize purse worth $7.2 million and 500 FedEx Cup Fall points.
On the evening of November 6, the PGA Tour made an official statement confirming the news. Cauley's place will be taken by former University of Texas golfer Cody Gribble at the 2024 World Wide Technology (WWT) Championship. The statement read:
"Bud Cauley is a WD from the World Wide Technology Championship field and replaced by Cody Gribble."
The news came shortly after Cameron Young's withdrawal. The player, team, or the PGA tour has not revealed the reason behind this. However, fans speculate that a past injury could be the cause of the news.
During the 2018 Memorial Tournament, Cauley was involved in a near-fatal car accident that kept him out of the game for nearly three years. The unfortunate incident left the 34-year-old with six broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and a fractured leg. Following surgery, he faced several setbacks but has since returned to a more or less regular schedule on the PGA Tour.
