Cameron Young feels like starting the 2025 season at the 2024 Hero World Challenge

Cameron Young is competing at the 2024 Hero World Challenge after more than 14 weeks of downtime. He's viewing his return to action as the unofficial commencement of his 2025 season.

Young had a strong start at the 2024 Hero World Challenge. In the first round, he scored 8-under 64 and sits atop the leaderboard. Young was bogey-free and scored eight birdies during the round at Albany Golf Course in Nassau, Bahamas.

In the post-tournament press conference, he said (via Golfweek):

"To me, this kind of feels like the start of a new season in a way. I'm playing this week, next week, have a couple of weeks off and then we start (in Maui)."

Young will compete next week at the Grant Thornton Invitational at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Florida. In the mixed-gender tournament, he is paired with LPGA golfer Lauren Coughlin. Talking about his first round, he said:

"I didn't play great yesterday. But you always feel like you can shoot a number like that. I really felt very well in control, which isn't necessarily surprising but it’s a nice thing to come out and just feel like yourself."

Young is two shots ahead of Justin Thomas who's positioned second. Five players are tied for third including the defending Champion and tournament's favorite Scottie Scheffler with a score of 5-under. Jason Day is positioned last in the 20-man field with a score of 3-over 75.

The winner of the 2024 Hero World Challenge will take home $1 million and the runner-up will receive $450,000. In the second round, Young will tee at 12:34 p.m. ET with Justin Thomas.

Cameron Young has had a great 2024 season on the PGA Tour. In 21 starts, he has one runner-up, six top-10, and eight top-25 finishes. He finished 44th in the FedExCup standings.
