The latest season of the PGA Tour is set to teed off last weekend with The Sentry 2025. Hideki Matsuyama clinched victory at the competition in Maui with a circuit record 72-hole score of 35-under par. The ace golfer returns this weekend for the latest edition of the Sony Open in Hawaii and he is the outright favorite to win.
Matsuyama, who secured two wins in 2024, tops the odds list to win the $1.566 million winner’s paycheck from the of the $8.7 million purse. As per SportsLine, the reigning FedEx St. Jude Championship winner comes into the weekend with 9-1 odds. Corey Conners follows him with 14-1 odds.
It is pertinent to note that World No.5 Matsuyama is the highest-ranked player on the Sony Open as top names like Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy remained on the sidelines. For the unversed, the 32-year-old Japanese star contested the Sony Open in 2024 and finished T30.
The in-form golfer will be looking to turn this result around and continue his successful start to the 2025 season in Hawaii.

Apart from this, Matsuyama also made an appearance at the Olympic Men's Golf Competition held at Le Golf National, France in August. He bagged the bronze medal in the competition after finishing behind winner Scottie Scheffler and runner-up Tommy Fleetwood.
