Yes, Phil Mickelson can join Sergio Garcia on his return to the DP World Tour. However, since joining LIV Golf, he hasn't filled the eligibility criteria to maintain a DP World Tour card. One needs to play at least four DP World Tour events, excluding the Majors, in a calendar year to be eligible.
Mickelson, therefore, would have to pay fines to the DP World Tour for joining LIV Golf if he seeks to return to the European Tour. Recently, Garcia has shown interest in returning to the European Tour.
In a recent Ryder Cup captains' press conference, European captain Luke Donald said (via ASAP Sports):
"He (Garcia) resigned his (DP World Tour) membership a couple of years ago but we have had some chats. He's considering rejoining; he'd have to follow all the rules and regulations like everyone else and if he does that he will be eligible to partake in the Ryder Cup."
If Garcia regains his DP World Tour membership, he'd be eligible for the 2025 Ryder Cup as vice-captain and a player. Garcia has played in 10 Ryder Cups in his golf career. Donald has said Garcia is interested in regaining the DP World Tour card.
"He's certainly very interested in doing that. He understands everything that's involved and again, the decision has to go to him whether he's prepared to do all that," Donald said (via Sky Sports).
However, the same thing can't be said about Phil Mickelson. US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley was asked if Mickelson will be involved in next year's matches. He said (via Yahoo Sports):
"To be honest, I haven’t gotten that far. I personally don’t think he’s really interested in doing it. I owe a lot to Phil and I think he’s done so much for the American side of the Ryder Cup, but I’m not so sure he’s looking to come in as a vice captain."
Bradley praised the mentorship of Phil Mickelson in the recent presser. Mickelson has represented the US 12 times in the Ryder Cup since turning professional.
However, he can still join the DP World Tour like the $70 Million-worth LIV Golf star Garcia (according to Celebrity Net Worth) if the 54-year-old regains his membership by paying fines for joining LIV Golf in 2022.
How has Phil Mickelson performed in 2024 on LIV Golf?
Phil Mickelson is a legend in the game of golf. He joined LIV Golf in 2022. In the inaugural year, he finished 34th in the individual standings but dropped to 39th in 2023 and 46th in 2024.
Mickelson's performance has been poor in comparison to the last few years he has played on LIV Golf. He has barely saved himself from the relegation zone. In 13 starts, he has one top-10 finish and two top-25 finishes.
