Tiger Woods has his eyes set on winning another Major title. He has already begun his practice for The Open Championship and is looking forward to winning the Claret Jug for the fourth time in his career.
Woods holds an impressive record in Majors, having won 15 in his career, the second-highest in golf history, only behind Jack Nicklaus, who won 18. He last won The Open Championship in 2006 and has a chance to win it again in 2024. However, he will face top talents this week, including Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, and Xander Schauffele among others.
According to USA Today, Woods' odds to win The Open Championship are +15000. Although he is not one of the top favorites for the week, Woods has a decent chance to win the Major.
Fans are anxiously waiting for him to bounce back in the game. Interestingly, Tiger Woods himself expressed confidence in his game, telling the media during a press conference for the Major that he could win again.
"I’ll play as long as I can play and I feel like I can still win the event," Woods said (via SI).
The 2024 edition of The Open Championship takes place at Royal Troon, a venue where Woods has played twice before. He participated in the tournament in 1997, finishing tied for 24th place. He played at Royal Troon again in 2004, finishing in the top 10, tying for ninth place.
Now, after 20 years, he will return to compete at this venue, and his experience will be an added advantage for him.
However, Tiger Woods has struggled with his game in recent times, particularly in 2024. He made the cut at the Masters in April but had a rough outing in the final rounds, finishing last on the leaderboard.
Woods earned a special exemption to compete at last month's US Open but failed to make the cut. He also did not make the cut at this year's PGA Championship. Aside from Majors, Woods played at the Genesis Invitational earlier this year but withdrew after the first round due to illness.
How has Tiger Woods played at The Open Championship in the past?
Tiger Woods has played in The Open Championship 22 times in his career so far. However, he has only made the cut in 18 of those appearances and has ten top-10 finishes.
Woods made his debut at the Major in 1995, finishing in a tie for 68th place. He did not miss any edition of The Open until 2008. He returned to compete in 2009 but then missed the cut. He bounced back with a tie for 23rd place in 2010 but again missed the cut in 2011. Woods was tied for third in 2012 and finished sixth in 2013.
