Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is set to be the honorary chairman for the 2024 Presidents Cup. This is a role held by numerous world leaders in the past, and for the first time, Trudeau will serve in it. The official X account for the tournament confirmed the news.

Trudeau said via the tournament's website:

"Sending my best wishes to all the golfers – and especially our Canadian stars – participating in the Presidents Cup, this year in Montreal. With the Olympics, the Paralympics, and so many other tournaments, this summer has shown us all the power of sport to inspire and unite."

He also encouraged all Canadians to keep up the enthusiasm with the Presidents Cup later this month. PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan also said that the addition of Trudeau will "greatly enhance" the efforts to promote golf on a global level. He said the Tour is "honored" to have the Canadian PM onboard in this capacity.

That includes the International team, which is led by a Canadian captain and has three players from the country. Mike Weir, one of the best-ever golfers from Canada, has a team consisting of 12 players.

Six were automatic qualifiers: Hideki Matsuyama, Sungjae Im, Adam Scott, Tom Kim, Jason Day, and Byeong Hun An. They made it in by their OWGR rank.

The other six were selected by Weir individually. These include Corey Conners, Taylor Pendrith, Mackenzie Hughes (all three are from Canada), Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Si Woo Kim, and Min Woo Lee. They will take on the Americans who are captained by Jim Furyk.
