Charlie Woods recently referred to his US Junior Amateur 2024 outing as his biggest learning experience of the year. He said he was so focused on winning the tournament that he didn’t concentrate on playing the shots.
Charlie Woods is at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club this week to compete at the PNC Championship alongside his father, Tiger Woods. The duo shares the lead after shooting 13-under 59 in the opening round. Earlier this year, Charlie played in the U.S. Junior Amateur for the first time but missed the cut.
On Saturday, December 21, Charlie Woods said the US Junior Amateur was his biggest learning experience of 2024.
"It's, again, about focusing on my playing," he elaborated. "I was so focussed on winning and how I played that it kind of crept into kind of how am I going to win, instead of how I'm going to play the shot, and it kind of built up and that caused two very, very bad rounds of golf. But live and learn."
Charlie Woods didn’t have an ideal debut at the US Junior Amateur, finishing at 22-over after two days and missing the cut by a staggering 18 shots.
Woods started his outing on the North Course at Oakland Hills Country Club. He carded a 12-over 82 in the first round, managing just two birdies throughout the day. His round included five double bogeys and four bogeys.
The second round was slightly better, as he shot a 10-over 80, but it wasn’t enough to crack the top 64. He began the day with a birdie, which proved to be his only one. He finished the round with four bogeys and three double bogeys.
When will Charlie Woods and Tiger Woods tee off at the PNC Championship 2024, Day 2?
Charlie Woods and Tiger Woods are paired with Bernhard Langer and his son Jason for the final round of the PNC Championship 2024. The group will tee off on Sunday, December 22, at 11:07 am ET.
Charlie and Tiger Woods fired a 13-under 59 in the opening round to take a joint one-stroke lead. The duo is tied with Team Singh (Vijay Singh and Qass Singh) and the defending champions, Team Langer at the top.
Team Woods is making their fifth appearance at the PNC Championship and is looking for their first win. Their best result came in 2021, where they finished as runners-up after making eleven straight birdies, just two strokes behind the winners, Team Daly.
