It was a thrilling performance for Wallace, who just beat out Nicolai Hojgaard to win. The Englishman topped him by a single stroke. Hojgaard's putt narrowly missed on the 17th hole, which ended up being the difference.
Wallace said via Golf Week:
“Self talk was very good today, been working really hard since the Players on it. I realized at the Players out of the 145 shots I hit to miss the cut by one, two of those I spoke to myself well. Two shots for the whole week, so that’s not good enough. That’s not going to get the job done.”
He added:
“Very happy down those last few holes. I knew I could do it and I played great all week, just came out on top.”
Unfortunately, winning the Corales Puntacana Championship is not enough to get him into the Masters, but it does get him into the PGA Championship when it rolls around later this year.
The payout was nice and it was his first-ever PGA Tour win, so he'll likely be pleased with the result despite missing out on a trip to Augusta in the spring.
