Former golfer Sir Nick Faldo recently announced that he and his wife, Lindsay Faldo, will be removing their personal accounts on X (formerly Twitter). They arrived at this decision due to the increase in explicit content on the platform.

The couple had released a joint statement regarding the decision. Although their personal accounts will be discontinued "by the end of the week," their professional and business accounts will remain on X. They acknowledged Elon Musk in their statement.

"While we appreciate the free speech forum that the brilliant Elon Musk has encouraged and developed, we feel the growing number of posts with overly explicit content, including violent images, disturbing videos, and aggressive language is not of interest to us or healthy for anyone to experience"

The pair also had an issue with the privacy changes on X and mentioned that their accounts on other social media sites such as Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and Facebook would still be up and running.

However, the news was not very well-received by fans and followers as most of them thought the statement was unnecessary.

"Leaving X for…..LinkedIn? bad move sire"
"Nobody cares," a user said.
"I love Nick as a golfer for many reasons, but mostly for the curb stomping he gave Norman at The Masters in '96. With that said, no need to make a production out of leaving X," another added.
"Don't want to lose any business so brands will stay but feel so strongly about X that we are leaving... makes complete sense," one user noted.
"Coward"
"This warranted a statement? Ok …" another user quipped.

In the statement, Nick and Lindsay Faldo encouraged their followers to engage with the brands' accounts on X.

In August, US presidential candidate, Donald Trump spoke about roping in Sir Nick Faldo into his government if he gets reelected this year. Calling Faldo, "a major friend of mine", the former US president praised the English golfer during a rally in Montana (via The Mirror).

"This guy is a major golfer. He is a major friend of mine. One of the best ever. They knighted him in England or the UK. And he just knew how to win."

He further added:

"He could take people, he'd play the best players in the world, and they always folded in front of him. In fact, I think I need to bring him into government 'cause we like to get other people to fold. And his nickname is Foldo because he makes everyone but his name is Faldo."

During the speech, Sir Nick Faldo was present in the audience along with his wife, Lindsay, who is a staunch supporter of the Republican party.
