Daniel Brown says he tries to hide his smoking habit from parents after lighting one at The Open, dubs it a ‘coping mechanism’ 

Daniel Brown was spotted smoking a cigarette during the third round of the Open Championship. He said he did it as a coping mechanism but wanted to avoid smoking in front of his parents.

On Saturday, July 20, Brown carded 2-under 73 in the third round of the Open Championship and was unmoved at T2. He picked up four birdies on the third day at Royal Troon but also made five bogeys and a double bogey during the round.

Speaking at the post-round interview, Brown shed light on his smoking habit.

"That's just a bit of a bad habit that I've got into," he said as per ASAP Sports. "Do you know what, I only really do it when I'm golfing, to be honest, so I suppose it could be a coping mechanism. I was trying to sneak."

Daniel Brown revealed that he was trying to hide it from the people as well as his parents, as he didn't want to smoke in front of them.

"I don't do it in front of them, or I don't want to do it in front of them, so I try and hide it," he added.
