Delta Airlines has agreed to pay compensation after a flyer complained about his golf bag being destroyed on a flight. The strange incident has been making waves on the internet.

John Andre was traveling from Atlanta to Fort Myers, Florida when he had the unpleasant incident with Delta Airlines. His golf bag was reportedly destroyed during the journey, prompting him to file the claim.

In an interview with WKRC TV, Andre addressed the incident and said that the airline had agreed to pay $4,000 in compensation. Speaking of the incident, the man reported that the flight officials had "dragged" his golf bag, which then "caught fire," destroying his clubs. He said (via Golfweek):

“These have been dragged, and then they caught fire. And then I realized when it came around again, ‘Oh my god! These are my clubs!’ The freight guy said they dragged it. Of course, it wore through the protective covering, then they started to spark, and then it caught everything on fire.”

As reported by Golfweek, Delta Airlines apologized to John Andre and agreed to pay for the damage.

An LPGA Tour player’s bag destroyed on a Delta Airlines flight

This was the second time in recent weeks that a complaint about bags being destroyed on Delta Airlines flights was reported. In November 2024, ahead of the Annika Driven by Gainbridge at Pelican Tournament, LPGA Tour player Jennifer Chang’s golf clubs were also reportedly destroyed during a Delta Airlines flight.

Tour content manager for Callaway Golf, Johnny Wunder, shared a video of the destroyed clubs, which was reshared by Nuclr Golf on X (formerly Twitter). He said:

"Delta airlines ran over some clubs. That's what they call a Delta grind. A little toe face relief, way to go Delta, nice work, looks great, looks amazing."

In May 2024, another incident involving Delta Airlines surfaced when the ESTU Men's Golf Team complained about the airline mishandling their golf bags. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the team shared a video of their clubs being mishandled by Delta Airlines, writing:

"Nice of @Delta to handle our clubs with such care."

The incident brought a lot of criticism, with fans in the comment section of the post sharing their frustration over the mishaps.

"This is 100% accurate. I’ve had 2 bags broken in last two trips. Then they denied my claim. I spend a lot of money with them and loyal to a fault. Very disappointing," a fan wrote.
"This is so painful to watch," another fan jotted.

However, later the PR team of Delta Airlines released a statement apologizing. Their statement read (as quoted by Golf.com):

“We apologize to the ETSU Golf team and ask for a mulligan on how their equipment was handled. We’re in direct contact with the Bucs to ensure they have what they need to successfully compete in the NCAAs.”

This marks the third time in a year that Delta Airlines has been in the headlines for mishandling players’ equipment.
