Rory McIlroy has advanced to the 2024 BMW Championship. The second of three playoffs that decide the FedEx winner will be held from August 22 to 25 at Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock, Colorado.

Mcllroy had an unimpressive showing at the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship, ending it tied for 68th at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee. He scored 68, 73, 74, and 74 in the four rounds to finish with an aggregate score of 9-over 289.

Mcllroy received only 13 FedExCup points for finishing tied for 68th out of 70 players. However, given his good performances during the 2024 season, he is positioned fifth in the FedExCup standings with 2,559 points and thus advances to the BMW Championship.

Mcllroy has won two tournaments this year on the PGA Tour, the Wells Fargo Championship and the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with Shane Lowry. He has finished in the top 10 at six tournaments this year.

Meanwhile, several players ranked between 50 and 70 in the FedExCup standings made significant jumps to enter into the top 50 to advance into the BMW Championship, such as Viktor Hovland (57th to 16th), Nick Dunlap (68th to 48th) and Eric Cole (54th to 46th).

Other players who made notable jumps in the FedExCup standings after the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship include Sam Burns (29th to 18th), Denny McCarthy (45th to 30th), and Will Zalatoris (49th to 37th).
