Fans on social media have reacted to Team USA taking an early lead at the 2024 Presidents Cup after clean sweeping the International Team in the opening round matches. The biennial team championship kicked off on Thursday, September 26, with the fourball matches at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Canada.

On the first day, Team USA was phenomenal with their game. Xander Schauffele and Tony Finau defeated Jason Day and Byeong Hun An while Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley registered a win over Sungjae Im and Tom Kim.

Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala won against Adam Scott and Min Woo Lee, while Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns defeated Hideki Matsuyama and Corey Conners. Wyndham Clark and Keegan Bradley also won their match against Taylor Pendrith and Christiaan Bezuidenhout.

Nuclr Golf shared the impressive start of Team USA at the Presidents Cup on its X (formerly Twitter) account, writing:

"#CLEAN SWEEP 🧹 — Team USA absolutely destroyed the International team on day 1 of the #PresidentsCup. The American squad will take a commanding 5-0 lead heading into day 2 Foursomes."

However, fans were not happy with the competition, calling it "worthless."

"Worthless competition," a fan wrote.
"Dismantled," another fan commented.

Meanwhile, some fans commented on the poor performance of the International Team, stating that many of their best players, such as Cameron Smith and Joaquin Niemann, play on the LIV Golf Tour.

"Best internationals play on LIV. Cam Smith, J Neumann , Oousthusizen. This year will be a wipe out. Things must change or ratings will be in the dumper," a fan jotted.
"America missing Brooks and Bryson but Internationals are missing half a team by not playing LIV players," another fan wrote.

Notably, Team USA has an impressive record at the Presidents Cup of 12 wins. Since the inception of the competition in 1994, the International Team has only won one edition in 1998 under the guidance of Peter Thomson.
