The 2024 Tour Championship is officially underway, with all remaining golfers competing at East Lake to conclude the PGA Tour season. Following two weeks of playoff tournaments, the field has been narrowed down to those who have successfully navigated the 36-event regular season. These golfers are now competing for the final time in a sanctioned tournament for the foreseeable future.
The tournament will be conducted in a traditional format, with four rounds of golf played over the weekend. All participants will compete throughout the week. Does it, like other PGA Tour events, have a cut line?
The Tour Championship does not have a cut line. The FedEx St. Jude Championship and BMW Championship did not have one, either. This is a key part of the playoff format.
If a golfer particularly struggles in the first two rounds and shoots something like eight over, they still have a chance to move on. Their season rank as well as performance impact that. So if a golfer has had a good season, they're not cut from the first round because of two bad days of golf.
While the number of golfers has gradually decreased from 70 to 30 through the playoff series, there is no reason to further reduce this number at the Tour Championship. In fact, it would be counterproductive to cut the field at this stage, as it would limit the competition and reduce the overall excitement.
All 30 golfers who have teed off or will tee off, will continue to play through Sunday. While not all players will be in contention for the title, each golfer will complete all 72 holes of the tournament,.
Who is playing the Tour Championship?
The Tour Championship does not have a cut, ensuring that all 30 players below will participate in all four rounds of the tournament. Due to their varying performances throughout the season, the players will start with staggered scores.
