Xander Schauffele will not be able to take the original Wanamaker trophy home. The winner of the PGA Championship gets a replica of the Wanamaker Trophy for one year, while the original is permanently displayed at the PGA of America's new home in Frisco, Texas.

Xander Schauffele won the recently concluded 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. He received a replica of the Wanamaker trophy along with a cash prize of $3,330,000.

The Wanamaker trophy is named after Lewis Rodman Wanamaker. He founded the PGA of America and donated a trophy for the first edition of the PGA Championship in 1916. The first tournament was held at Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville, New York.

Till 1925, the winner of the PGA Championship used to take the trophy home for a year and had to return it for the next year. However, the tradition was changed after Walter Hagen refused to return the trophy. He later revealed that he lost it. Since then, a replica, that is 10% smaller than the original trophy, has been awarded to the winner.

The Wanamaker Trophy is considered to be among the biggest trophies in professional sports. It weighs 27 pounds and measures 10.5 inches in diameter. Lenth-wise, it pans 27 inches from handle to handle and measures 28 inches tall.

Who has won the most Wanamaker trophy at the PGA Championship?

Walter Hagen and Jack Nicklaus have both won five Wanamaker trophies. Hagen won it in the years, 1921, 1924, 1925, 1926 and 1927. On the other hand, Nicklaus won in 1963, 1971, 1973, 1975 and 1980. Tiger Woods has won it four times.
