For the second year in a row, Tiger Woods had his daughter, Sam Woods, caddying for him at the PNC Championship. The duo, along with Charlie Woods, spent quality family time over the week at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club.
While Charlie is carrying on his father's golf legacy and continues to improve with each passing year, Sam Woods isn't much into golf. In fact, she is into soccer and plays in her college team. She is also a huge fan of the US Women's soccer team.
Last year, when Sam Woods caddied for Tiger at the PNC Championship, the veteran golfer shed light on his daughter's love for soccer.
"She does her own thing, which is soccer," he said. "She's committed to that. As far as golf, no, she really doesn't. She'll hang out in the backyard with us every now and again to have fun, but nothing competitive or serious."
Sam Woods was born on June 18, 2007, one day after Tiger Woods finished as the runner-up at the US Open. She was named Sam Alexis because the 15-time Major champion wanted a name that would be meaningful to both sides of the family. He also revealed that his father used to call him Sam.
During Sam's childhood, Woods tried to instill a love for golf in his daughter. He even put a golf club in Sam's hands, but she couldn't quite hold it. While growing up, she attended her legendary father's tournaments, but, in her father's words, she developed a negative connotation toward the game.
"Because at that time, when she was growing up, golf took daddy away from her," he said on the Today show earlier this year. "I had to pack, and I had to leave, and I'd be gone for weeks, and there's a negative connotation to it."
When Sam Woods gave an emotional speech dedicated to her father
A couple of years ago, Tiger Woods was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. He received the honor from his daughter Sam Woods, who gave an emotional speech that received widespread praise.
"My dad found himself in a position to make an 18-foot putt to force a US Open playoff, which he missed by a foot,” she said, as per PGA Tour. "He then had to rush to the airport, fly from Pittsburgh to Orlando, and drive to the Winnie Palmer Hospital.
"Within five minutes of walking into the hospital room, still wearing his red golf shirt, on June 18, I was born. He may have lost that day, but he won the greatest gift of all." she added.
In her emotional speech, she gave a glimpse of the hidden side of her father, who regularly attended her violin concerts and soccer games. She also spoke about the emotional time when Tiger Woods suffered an accident in 2021.
"We didn’t know if you'd come home with two legs or not," she said. "Now not only are you about to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, but you're standing here on your own two feet. This is why you deserve this, because you're a fighter."
The heartfelt speech made many people in attendance cry, including Tiger himself.
