Dustin Johnson is the new ambassador for Golf Saudi, the business arm of the Saudi Arabian Golf Federation. The news was announced during the PIF Saudi International, where Johnson missed the cut after 36 holes.
As part of his commitment to his new sponsor, Johnson will use its logo at events in which he participates. He will also dedicate time to supporting the development and training of new players, including the Saudi national team.
Commenting on the new agreement, Saudi Golf CEO Noah Alireza said, via LIV Golf News Service:
"We are honored to have Dustin [Johnson] taking on this role, which will be at the heart of our ambition to grow golf in Saudi Arabia and deliver our dream of seeing a Saudi champion in the future."
Alireza added:
"Our Saudi pro-golfers...and our National Development team will be learning year-round and hands-on from one of the very best to ever play the game. Off course, we’ll work with DJ to co-innovate on the future of golf, leaning on his unrivalled expertise and knowledge of the game to get more Saudis playing golf."
Dustin Johnson, for his part, expressed his satisfaction in supporting Saudi golf with this new agreement:
"Golf Saudi is doing such a great job of promoting the game of golf and trying to get more people involved, here in Saudi Arabia and around the world," Johnson said. "Me now being a Golf Saudi ambassador I’m very proud to be a part of that and I really want to help grow the game in Saudi."
Johnson has played in the Saudi International since its inception in 2019 and has won twice (2019, 2021). From 2022, he will play in LIV Golf, a league funded by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF).
With this new step in his career, Dustin Johnson joins the likes of Gary Player and Charley Hull, who are also sponsored by Golf Saudi.
