Dustin Johnson has praised Thomas Pieters after trading him into his LIV Golf team, 4Aces GC. He called the Belgian golfer a great addition to the squad, adding that he would make the team stronger and more competitive.
A couple of days ago, Johnson made his first trade of the LIV Golf offseason window, adding Pieters to his team. However, he has yet to announce which player Pieters will replace.
On Tuesday, December 3, during the pre-event presser for the PIF Saudi International, Johnson was asked about Pieters' trade.
"I played with him a few times this year, known Thomas for a long time," he said, "Yeah, he's a good player. I thought he was a good addition to the team. I feel like he makes the team stronger and more competitive. Especially with how strong the teams are, you've always got to try to make your team better."
Johnson's 4Aces GC won the Team Championship in the inaugural season, but this year they were not up to the mark. The team remained winless throughout the season for the first time in three years. However, they finished as joint runners-up in the Team Championship. It will be interesting to see what changes Pieters will bring to the team's fate.
'Mediocre at best" - Dustin Johnson reflects on his performance this season
In the pre-event press conference, Dustin Johnson reflected on his season and didn't seem impressed with his performance.
"I'd say mediocre at best," he said. "It wasn't quite up to the standards that I like, but I feel like the game's starting to come round. It started to get a little bit better towards the end of the year. Yeah, I'm feeling good going into this season."
Johnson won LIV Golf Las Vegas but registered just two more top-10 finishes this season. He finished fourteenth in the individual season standings.
Speaking of majors, Dustin Johnson missed the cut at the Masters Tournament and U.S. Open. His T31 finish at The Open Championship was his best result in the majors this year.
