McIlroy is placed T13 for the event after round two, with Hideki Matsuyama, Tommy Fleetwood, and Xander Schauffele leading the event at -11. The Irishman was expressive throughout his round, especially on day two.

On the 13th hole, McIlroy was seemingly furious about his approach shot. He was caught yelling on the mic:

“F—K OFF!!!”

Rory McIlroy found the fairway with his tee shot on the 13th hole and was setting up to score a birdie. However, he made a tiny mistake and was seemingly furious with himself immediately after the contact.

The shot wasn't as bad as McIlroy made it seem as he reached the green and had a 26-foot putt for a birdie. The 35-year-old golfer eventually two-putted and ended up with a decent par.

How has Rory McIlroy performed in the 2024 Paris Olympics?

Rory McIlroy was one of the favorites coming into the men's golf event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He began his campaign well as he carded -3 on day one and remained in the top half of the leaderboard.

The Irishman started his second round with a lot of promise as he carded an eagle on hole 3 and a birdie on 5. Unfortunately, this advantage was neutralized by a bogey on the 8th as he remained -3 for the day after the front nine.

McIlroy couldn't provide much momentum to his score on the back nine as he carded one bogey, one double bogey, and two birdies. He eventually finished -2 for the day to score -5 for the event after Round 2 and is six strokes behind the lead.

Rory McIlroy had previously downplayed the Olympics and said Major championships were more important for him. He said about golf's return to the Olympics in 2016 (via The Mirror):

"I never dreamed of competing in the Olympics or winning an Olympic medal. So in my mind, a major will always be more important."

McIlroy did not compete in the 2016 Rio Olympics, where golf came back as an Olympic sport after 112 years. Since then, Rory has competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and is currently in the field for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Irishman seems to have changed his tune since then as he recently said winning a medal would be one of the biggest achievements of his career in the last ten years.

"It would be the achievement, certainly of the year. If not - I think for me, it's well documented that I haven't won one of the Big Four in ten years. It would probably be one of, if not the biggest in my career for the last ten years," McIlroy said (via The Mirror).
