Former PGA Tour winner suggests 21-year-old Luke Clanton to the Masters 2025

Former PGA Tour winner Smylie Kaufman suggested Luke Clanton be invited to the Masters in 2025. The 21-year-old American amateur golfer made headlines last season for his remarkable performance. He played in a couple of PGA Tour events in 2024 on sponsor exemptions and recorded remarkable finishes.

Recently, Nicolai Hojgaard and Joaquin Niemann received Masters invitations. Smylie Kaufman reshared the post of the Masters invitees on his X (formerly Twitter) account, suggesting Luke Clanton to be the next to receive an invitation for the Major. He wrote:

"Luke Clanton next please."

Notably, Luke Clanton is in contention to earn his PGA Tour card. He is playing at this week's Sony Open in Hawaii on a sponsor exemption and only needs three more points to earn the PGA Tour card via PGA Tour University Accelerated points. Clanton needs to get to 20 points to earn the card, and currently has 17.

Did Luke Clanton play in any Major so far?

Clanton has only played in one Major so far. He competed at the 2024 US Open and finished in T41 position. Aside from the Major, Luke Clanton played in a couple of PGA Tour events last year. He played in eight tournaments and made the cut in seven of them, recording four finishes in the top 10 and two runner-up finishes.

The American amateur golfer started the 2024 US Open with a round of 76 but then bounced back with two rounds of 69. He struggled again in the final round, playing a round of 74. He finally settled in a tie for the 41st place in the Major.

He then competed in the PGA Tour's Rocket Mortgage Classic, where he played four rounds of 69, 68, 65, and 72 and finished tied for tenth place. His best finishes on the PGA Tour in 2024 were at the John Deere Classic and The RSM Classic.

At the John Deere Classic, he started with a round of 63, carded two rounds of 67, and played the finale with a round of 63, securing the T2 position. Meanwhile, at the RSM Classic, he started with a round of 68 and then played the next three rounds of 65, 68, and 66, tying for second place.
