Scottie Scheffler finished the US Open 2024 with a score of 8 over. Like most of his peers, Scheffler found the Pinehurst Resort's Course No. 2 an extremely difficult challenge to overcome.
After his fourth round of the U.S. Open, Scottie Scheffler shared his opinion with SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio, which was posted on X (formerly Twitter) by that network's reporter Jason Sobel. Scheffler said:
"When it comes to the US. Open 'borderline' is such a trigger word. No matter what I think, you have a pretty good understanding of where you're trying to hit the ball. ... You're going to get injured more here for a bad shot. That's just how the US Open is."
Scottie Scheffler sits T41 at the 2024 US Open with the tournament remaining. This is by far Scheffler's worst finish of the 2024 season. The last time he underperformed was a T17 he earned at The American Express.
Scottie Scheffler has not finished outside the top 25 in a PGA Tour tournament or major championship since the Players in 2022 when he finished T55.
His performance at Pinehurst also marked the first time Scheffler has played over par in all four rounds of the same tournament during 2024. This had not happened since the Genesis Scottish Open in 2022, where he played only two rounds (missed the cut) with scores of 73 and 72.
A look at Scottie Scheffler's performance at the US Open 2024 and more
Scottie Scheffler played the first round of the US Open 2024 with two birdies and three bogeys for a score of 1 over. The next day he got two bogeys and a double bogey (4 over), making the cut on the number (5 over).
In the third round, he repeated his score of the first day (1 over) with two birdies and three bogeys, while in the fourth round, he got two bogeys with no birdies, to set his tournament score at 8 over.
If the situation continues according to the current trend, Scheffler will finish outside the Top 27. It would be the worst finish of his career at the US Open, except for the editions in which he missed the cut (2016, 2019).
Scheffler would also be posting his worst finish in 20 editions of major championships, except for the three editions in which he was cut (US Open 2016, US Open 2019, PGA Championship 2022). His previous worst finish had been T27 at the 2017 US Open when he won the low amateur trophy.
