Tiger Woods is one of the most successful professional golfers in history and one of the most influential names in the sport today. However, social media (especially YouTube) may be leading the younger generation to disregard his career and impact.

Such a scenario was discussed in the latest edition of Barstool Sports' Fore Play podcast. The show's hosts talked about the opinion of some fans that kids today may know more about $2 million net worth (via Golf Span) golf influencer Grant Horvat than 15-time Major winner Tiger Woods.

One of the podcast's hosts, Frankie Borrelli, said he was "infuriated" when someone suggested to him that Horvat might be better known than Tiger Woods right now, if only to young kids:

"It infuriated me. I was like, that name [Tiger Woods'], is just something you know. Like when I was 11, I knew Babe Ruth, right?, like regardless of being a Yankee fan, you just knew these names." [34:47 - 34:58]

He added:

"If I was just like in sports culture even the slightest bit, I knew those names, like, I knew Hank Aaron, like, these names that you just know, they're just ingrained in sports right? like, how do you not know Tiger Woods, even if you're a 10-year-old?... That's f****ng crazy."

Grant Horvat is one of the most popular golf influencers today. His YouTube channel currently (December 2024) has over 900K subscribers.

Tiger Woods' presence on social networks

Tiger Woods does not have his own YouTube channel, but he still has a large presence on social networks. His Instagram profile has more than 3.5 million followers, while his X account has more than 6.4 million followers.

Likewise, content associated with Woods is ubiquitous across all social networks. News and videos about him often go viral, including older videos reposted by various users.

Woods has had a 28-year career in professional golf. Among his many accomplishments are his 110 victories, 82 of them on the PGA Tour (15 Majors).

In addition, Woods is one of only five players who have won each of the four majors at least once in his career (Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus), the so-called career golf Grand Slam.

Woods is also the player who has come closest to completing the Golden Slam (winning all four Majors in the same season). He did this by winning the US Open, The Open Championship, and the PGA Championship in 2000, and the Masters Tournament in 2001 (all four in a row, but in different years). This is referred to as the Tiger Slam.

Another of his many impressive records is that he made 142 consecutive cuts on the PGA Tour between 1998 and 2005. By comparison, the previous record holder and current second on the all-time list, Byron Nelson, accumulated 113.
