On the par-4 fourth hole, Malnati hit his first shot to the right, resulting in a one-stroke penalty. His second shot went too far left, again leading to a penalty. In his third attempt, counted as his fifth shot on the hole due to two penalty strokes, he managed to get the ball into the fairway, 177 yards from the hole. He finally holed out with his sixth shot from 177 yards, but it was counted as a double bogey.
