Golf Today's co-host Eamon Lynch has called out LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman for lying to players about the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points. Lynch's comments came after Eugenio Chacarra, on LIV Golf, criticized the Saudi-backed Tour for promising OWGR points and Majors to players.

Chacarra joined LIV Golf in 2022 and played for three seasons. However, his contract with Fireballs GC was not renewed after the 2024 season. Eamon Lynch said Chacarra is now facing the consequences of joining LIV in 2022 while those who encouraged him have moved on after benefiting.

Lynch further pointed out that LIV Golf's Carlos Ortiz had also mentioned being promised OWGR points for joining LIV Golf. He called out Greg Norman and said (via Golf Today):

"They lied to these guys. It's an outright lie because it wasn't within their gift to give official World Golf Ranking points. Perhaps Greg Norman thought he could actually bully the World Ranking system into giving them points (0:37-0:55)."
"So that he would have a critical mass of players who would allow them to kind of strong-arm the World Golf Rankings and say, well you have to give ranking points to a Dustin Johnson or a Brooks Koepka or a Bryson DeChambeau," he added.

Lynch further said that Chacarra will next compete in less prestigious tournaments like the upcoming Asian Tour event in India, due to limited options after being banned from the PGA Tour after joining LIV.

Greg Norman talks about his departure as CEO of LIV Golf

Greg Norman recently acknowledged that he'd be departing as the CEO of LIV Golf. In an interview with WISH-TV, when asked if there is going to be a new CEO, Norman replied:

"Yes. There will be a new CEO. I'm fine with that. Will I always have a place and be involved with LIV to some capacity? Yes. I'll always have that."
"Because of the impact that has been created in the game of golf by LIV, I've had a small, small piece of that, which I'm proud of... I've seen it come from a business model on paper to giving birth on the golf course to where it is today," he added.

Greg Norman, who has 88 professional titles, was named the first CEO of LIV Golf in 2021. The Australian has played a pivotal role in enhancing the Saudi-backed Tour and recruiting high-profile golfers like Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, and Brooks Koepka to the Tour.

Under Norman, LIV Golf has expanded to several countries outside the United States like the United Kingdom, Australia, and Singapore. As per the New York Times, Scott O'Neil will be the next CEO of LIV Golf. Neil is the former CEO of the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team and is an entertainment industry veteran.
