Former professional golfer Paige Spiranac recently reacted to the golf ball rollback. Golf's governing bodies, the USGA and R&A, announced new changes that will be made to the golf ball for elite competition. According to the proposal, tournament organizers would have the option to require the use of balls that travel around 15 yards less.

The new changes have received a lot of criticism from fans and golfers. Spiranac also took to social media to share her opinion on the new changes. The golfer turned social media influencer took to Twitter to write:

"Golf is weird. Let’s not have the guys on tour wear shorts but instead make the golf ball go shorter."

Paige Spiranac is not the only one to express her disappointment about the new changes made by the USGA and R&A.

Justin Thomas, the 2022 PGA Championship winner, is also not happy with the reduction in the size of the ball. Thomas is set to compete at the PGA Tour's Valspar Championship and ahead of the tournament, he talked about the proposed changes. He said:

"My reaction was disappointed and also not surprised, to be honest. I think the USGA over the years has, in my eyes, it’s harsh, but made some pretty selfish decisions. They definitely, in my mind, have done a lot of things that aren’t for the betterment of the game, although they claim it."
"I had conversations with some USGA members and to me. I don’t understand how it’s growing the game. For them to say in the same sentence that golf is in the best place it’s ever been, everything is great, but and I’m like, well, there shouldn’t be a but. You’re trying to create a solution for a problem that doesn’t exist.”

Thomas went on to add:

"Try to explain to me how that’s better for the game of golf. Why are this group of, call it 5- to 15-handicapped amateurs, determining the rules of golf for professional golfers or why are they saying that we have to do something?”

"Good one Paige" - Fans react to Paige Spiranac's opinion on the goll ball rollback

Fans were also not happy with the changes proposed by the USGA. They took to the comments section of Paige Spiranac's post to express their opinions.

Here are some of the reactions from Twitter:

"Good one Paige."
"It is weird, always has been, but the weirdness here was allowing a ball which rendered the playing fields irrelevant in the first place. Take lessons from Baseball. You can't enlarge the stadia, so control the ball."
"Its like they have a weird obsession with 'conformity'."
"The proposed change is the dumbest/most expensive way to place a premium on driving accuracy again (which is what this is really about, apart from some "classic" courses being deemed "too short" for the modern game). The better ways even reduce costs for the course."
"The game has taken a lot of skill out of it. Thats why you see blowback from the longer hitters. They know if they have to actually hit longer irons the may be screwed."

Officials have sent notices to all the manufacturing companies. Changes in the size of the ball will take time and will only be implemented around 2026.
