Nelly Korda brought her driver to the AIG Women's Open, and it was in full use on Thursday's (August 22) opening round. The golfer stepped up to the ninth hole, which has a green 299 yards away from the tee. That didn't stop the world number one golfer from reaching it on her first swing.
Her drive was excellent, but it did land and roll fortuitously. It ended up moving on to the green and left her in a good position. That wasn't evident in her reaction to the swing and her face afterward, as she was left a little disappointed with the contact and reacted in surprise that she managed to finish with a pretty good shot.
Fans saw Korda's impressive and surprising shot and had their say on the matter. Golf fans watching her at the Women's Open couldn't help but praise her.
"Good thing she didn't hit it good. Lol," wrote a fan.
"Remember folks... never apologize for being f*****g awesome," one said.
"I’m gonna do this the next time I hit one 50 yards right onto another group," another joked.
"Hit the same shot myself last week. Slightly high toe driver, drawing knuckler with almost no spin. Feels bad but goes 330 yards. Go figure!" one added.
"We make the same face…..except we are usually on the wrong green," a fan posted.
"Always pretend that’s what you were really trying to do. A sub zero quacking knuckle ball off the toe that goes a mile," one chimed in.
"That was priceless," another said.
"I need to hit the weight room," one joked.
Korda is currently tied for sixth. She's through 15 holes at the time of writing and is two under par.

She's looking to rebound and continue a recent trend of better play at the AIG Women's Open. She said (via NBC Sports):
“You’re going to go up. You’re going to go down. I think the best part of the downs is that you learn so much about yourself and it’s always a learning opportunity and I enjoy that."
The golfer continued:
“I always try to think of everything in a positive mindset. Compared to the start of the year, obviously I’ve had some finishes that weren’t the best. But at the end of the day, I’m still learning and I’m still getting better from it.”
So far, Nelly Korda has played fairly well at the Women's Open and will have three more rounds to try and earn a victory.
