Golf influencer Grace Charis was active on social media on Wednesday (Dec. 11). She shared a video of herself taking some golf swings in a purple tank top. She paired the top with a pearl necklace, a white Titleist hat, and a white skirt.
Her caption was simple and accurate: "Golf." In the video, she poses several times in slow motion before getting started. She then takes a few swings, also in slow motion, from various spots on the golf course.
She closes the video, which functions more as an edit than anything else with fun music in the background, with a few more poses showing off her outfit. So far, it has been a successful post. In just seven hours at the time of writing, Charis has accumulated over 13,000 likes and over 140 comments.
Grace Charis opens up on why she dresses the way she does
Golf influencers have pushed the boundaries of what is acceptable on a golf course, especially in attire. People like Paige Spiranac have worn whatever they wanted to and said they don't care about the unwritten rules of attire for the sport.
Grace Charis has taken that a step further. She's received some criticism for her dress, but she isn't worried about it. Via Golf Monthly, she said:
“It’s a free world. In Europe, people go naked to beaches all the time, so I don’t really see the difference.”
Charis continued:
“I enjoy dressing up for golf - fancy button-ups and golf skirts can be comfortable,” she says. “When I first started, I didn’t have the wardrobe of golf wear that I have now. Back then, I’d show up in ripped Vans, a t-shirt, and leggings - definitely not acceptable at any elite course.”
All of that makes it a little more affordable. If the clothes are cheap, it is far less of a barrier to entry for the sport. That's how Grace Charis learned, and it's something she still appreciates.
She added:
“I’m more about the $80-a-month memberships where you get unlimited range balls and $10 rounds. Most people my age don’t have a ton of money or make a ton of money, so keeping it accessible is key.”
The dress code helps keep golf closed off, something Charis doesn't like. The influencer says that some clubs make it feel like some people are not good enough to join, which is a "terrible feeling."
In general, most places haven't had an issue with Charis' style, though she said one club in the Bahamas told her that her skirt was too short. She had to buy one nearly knee-length to continue playing. Other than that, the influencer has had no issues.
