Greg Norman is the LIV Golf CEO. He has been since its inception, and he has committed to it and remained loyal to its development and growth in the golf space since then. His time in the role may come to an end eventually, though.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, the controversial former golfer was asked about reports that LIV is looking to replace him as CEO. He was calculated in his response, saying:
“I’ll answer it this way: My contract is through August of 2025. My commitment to LIV has been unquestioned and my commitment into the future is also unquestioned. Time will tell. Will there be a change in my role? My position and my role is to deliver 2025 and get our schedule done and all the things we need to do.”
Norman officially began as CEO in 2021, and while he didn't say it at the time, it is clear now that it was a four-year contract for the role. That may or may not be extended when it expires, and Norman may have to do something else then.
Despite that, Greg Norman believes in the future of LIV. He says that they have been true to themselves and that he has tried to take the high road because "we knew what we had and what we are doing is right." He remains optimistic about the tour's future and what they've been able to do in such a short time.
Greg Norman unclear on PIF x PGA Tour merger timeline
Greg Norman reiterated in the interview that he has not been a part of the negotiations between the PIF and PGA Tour. As CEO of LIV Golf, he's not involved in the PIF. They are simply the funding for his tour. As for the PGA Tour, he doesn't have any inside position with them, either.
Norman said (via Sports Illustrated):
“I can only speak on LIV’s behalf and we’re moving forward irrespective (of a deal). Would it makes things easier? Yes, it would. Whether it’s a year or now."
The CEO continued, saying that it has always been a simple fix to anyone who looked at the problem even at the very beginning:
“I will go to my grave wondering about those first 18 months (with LIV) and why. Knowing where we are today. Knowing the acceptance of what LIV Golf is today. Why did it have to be that way?"
Greg Norman said he can see all the people who "created this angst" and would love to go back in time and revisit the start of this entire situation. He believes things would have been done differently if they could have.
