The Crypto.com Showdown Pro-Am was held on Monday, December 17th, at Shadow Creek Golf Course, the same venue as the main event. Among the notable amateur participants was Scott O'Neil, who is reportedly set to replace Greg Norman at LIV Golf in the near future.

The Showdown is not sanctioned by the PGA Tour or LIV Golf. However, the breakaway league has acknowledged the event, while the American circuit has maintained absolute silence on the matter. It was also reported that O'Neil was to make an appearance at the venue.

The Sports Business Journal also reported that O'Neil played with two key media executives at the Showdown Pro-Am, Alan Gold, the head of sports media for CAA Evolution, the media arm of CAA Sports, and Jordan Bazant, the executive vice president of business development and media for Fox Sports.

LIV Golf has not yet secured a partnership with a major television network to broadcast its events. Fox Sports, for its part, is virtually out of the professional golf market as NBC, CBS, ABC, and ESPN currently cover the majority of U.S. broadcasts.

The Sports Business Journal and other media outlets reported in late November that Scott O'Neil would replace Greg Norman as CEO and Commissioner of LIV Golf. According to these reports, the transition would take place before the start of the 2025 season, which begins in February with the Riyadh event.

Some details about The Showdown

The Showdown is a made-for-TV golf event taking place on Tuesday, December 17th, at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas. The event will pit Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy against Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau.

The event will be played over 18 holes in a format similar to the Ryder Cup. The first six holes will be played in foursomes, the next six in four-ball, and the final six (if necessary) in singles. Pairings for singles have not yet been announced.

The purse for the event will be $10 million paid in cryptocurrency. This amount will be provided by Crypto.com, the title sponsor of the event. Both teams will receive prize money, although the winner's share has not yet been announced.

The four players involved in the event own a stake in it, while the PGA Tour, LIV Golf, or any other institution associated with professional golf is not involved. The players have expressed interest in making it an annual event and even taking it outside the United States.

They have said their plans are for the event to be played every other year in America, while they hope to visit the Middle East in 2025 and Europe in the near future. Shadow Creek Golf Course has signed a contract to host the event in the United States for the next six years.
