Harris English, a 35-year-old golfer from Georgia, USA, won the 72nd edition of the Farmers Insurance Open, held from January 22-25. This is his fifth PGA Tour victory after he won the 2021 Travelers Championship.
The victory saw Harris English jump 41 spots from 75th to 34th on the Official World Golf Rankings. His best OWGR rank is 10th which he achieved after winning the 2021 Travelers Championship. English has surpassed Jon Rahm, who has positioned 37th in the rankings.
With the jump of 41 spots, he has also surpassed Nico Echavarria, Max Homa, Justin Rose, and Si Woo Kim. English won $1.64 million of the total $9.3 million prize money at the tournament. He also received 500 FedExCup points and jumped from 109th to 4th in the FedExCup standings.
In the post-tournament press conference, English talked about the drought and his mediocre performances and said (PGA Tour):
"When you kind of get in those ruts, you kind of lose your competitiveness, you lose the fun in shaping shots and hitting different shots. I spent a lot of the offseason working on some technique stuff. (Parsons) said it was time to get back to playing."
Sam Stevens, who finished as a runner-up at the Farmers Insurance Open, jumped 68 spots from 143rd to 75th place. Andrew Novak, who finished third, jumped from 130th to 84th on the OWGR rankings. Stevens took home $1.01 million while Novak won $641,700.
