Hayden Springer set a new record on the PGA Tour at the 2024 John Deere Classic, beating several of the PGA Tour players, including Tiger Woods and many others. The American golfer scored 3-under with an eagle and a birdie on the last two holes of the first round, becoming the first player on the PGA Tour to play the final two holes of a round for 3-under.
With his round of 59 at the John Deere Classic, Hayden Springer became the 14th player on the PGA Tour to shoot sub-60. This was the second time a player scored 59 at the John Deere Classic, the first being Paul Goydos in 2010. Interestingly, this was also the second time in recent weeks that a PGA Tour player scored 59, with Cameron Young achieving the same at the 2024 Travelers Championship last month.
Hayden Springer's achievement puts him alongside Scottie Scheffler, Kevin Chappell, Stuart Appleby, Chip Beck, Al Geiberger, Jim Furyk, Justin Thomas, Brandt Snedeker, and Cameron Young, all of whom have scored 59 on the PGA Tour.
Meanwhile, according to the official circuit website, Tiger Woods' lowest score on the PGA Tour is 61. Woods first scored 61 at the 1991 GTE Byron Nelson Invitational and has done so in multiple tournaments. Although Woods has scored lower than 61, it was in unofficial tournaments, such as the 2000 World Golf Championships-EMC World Cup.
Here are the lowest rounds shot by Tiger Woods on the PGA Tour:
- 61 at the 1999 GTE Byron Nelson Invitational (Round 1)
- 61 at the 2000 WGC-NEC Invitational (Round 2)
- 61 at the 2005 Buick Open (Round 2)
