Not a single member of the European side was from LIV while just one American player was selected from the rebel tour.

European captain Luke Donald, who guided the Europeans to a dominant victory at Marco Simone in 2023, revealed that he has been having conversations with Garcia about returning to the team. The latter was a longtime standout for the team, a player some believed would be a captain one day.

The idea that Garcia could one day play for the European team in the storied competition again has sparked a lot of debate amongst fans. Some believe he never should have been left off the team or should have been part of the captaincy, but others aren't keen on this new development. One fan wrote on X:

"No he’s a petulant child"

"Please….we need to beat his a** too!" one exclaimed.
"If I was a European player I would be p****d about this," another added.
"Golf’s version of 'Can Kaepernick still play in the league?'" one said.

Here are a few other reactions from fans online:

"Is he playing well enough to be on the team?? He should definitely be a captain at some point though," one said.
"Even if Sergio isn't a top player (in Europe he might be) he will bring eyes to the RC which benefits the game," another added.
"Anyone playing well enough should make either team. The fans want to see the best golfers play, bottom line," one chimed in.

Regardless of how anyone feels about it, the idea of Garcia returning to the team in some capacity is reportedly at least being considered.

Luke Donald reveals Sergio Garcia wants back on Ryder Cup

Sergio Garcia was furious when the sanctions were handed down to those who joined LIV Golf. He was so upset that his reaction caused Robert MacIntyre to reportedly lose some respect for Garcia. Now, the golfer wants to undo all of that and come back to the Ryder Cup.

“He’s considering rejoining; he’d have to follow all the rules and regulations like everyone else and if he does that he will be eligible to partake in the Ryder Cup.”

Donald noted that Garcia had resigned his membership a few years ago but said:

“Yeah, we chatted on the phone a couple of weeks ago. He’s certainly very interested in doing that. He understands everything that’s involved and again, the decision has to go to him whether he’s prepared to do all that. But certainly we’ve had that discussion.”

It remains to be seen whether or not Garcia can or will make his way back, but it's something on the radar of the Ryder Cup team now.
