“He celebrated like crazy” – Scottie Scheffler gets candid about his controversial Presidents Cup exchange with Tom Kim

Scottie Scheffler played a major part in helping the US team win the 2024 Presidents Cup against the International team by a big margin of 18.5 - 11.5. Scheffler and Tom Kim faced each other on the first day of the Thursday Four-ball match.

The duo had a fiery contest in which both of them were seen trash-talking and over-the-top celebrations. Off the course, Scheffler and Kim are great friends as they regularly practice together in Dallas.

In a recent Golf.com SUBPAR podcast episode, Scheffler was asked about his feelings playing against his 'good friend' Kim in the tournament. He replied:

"I think it may have been his first birdie of the match on seven and I think it was actually my first birdie as well because Russell had carried us at the first six holes and I think it was really Tom's first good chance for birded he knocked it in, he celebrated like crazy."

"And I'm like if he did that at home I would have done the exact same thing if he made a 25-footer and started talking trash and saying hammer and whatnot. And then if I made it on top of him I would turn around and tell him be quiet."

In the fourball match, Scheffler was paired with Russell Henley and Kim was paired with Sungjae Im. The US team won the match by 3 & 2. Scheffler further said:

"And so it was one of those deals where it's kind of fun if it wasn't my friend I probably would have never done anything or reacted it just so happened that it was my buddy out there."

Scheffler said that at the end of the day, it was all for good fun. He said that he enjoyed playing against Tom Kim and expressed happiness that he managed a win in the match with Henley.
