LIV Golf star Cameron Smith has expressed support for Adam Scott's decision to skip the Australian swing, noting that it was only the third time the Australian veteran has missed the home events in his career.
Recently, Scott announced his choice to sit out the Australian Open and Australian PGA Championship to rest ahead of the PGA Tour season. He mentioned that 2025 could be one of his last few years with a chance at the majors, as he is turning 45, and he wants to ensure he’s well-rested before the new season.
Following Adam Scott's statement, Smith extended his support to his longtime colleague.
"I spoke to Adam a lot throughout the year," Smith said as per Australian Golf Digest. "And I think his great play towards the end of the year probably led to a few more events than he wanted to play, and to have some time off is always a good thing."
"It's always nice to have him back down here, but at the same time, he’s earned his rest, and I’m sure he’ll be back down here in the future to support again," he added.
The $50 million LIV Golf star is competing in the Queensland PGA Championship this week. He shot a 71 in the third round, placing him tied for fourth at 6-under after 54 holes.
Adam Scott has won the Australian PGA Championship twice and the Australian Open once. However, he will not be competing in these events this year. He mentioned that he has always made an effort to play in at least a few Australian events, but this time will be an exception.
"I need to spend some quality time with my family and get some rest," he said.
