Tony Finau's son, Jraice Finau, is currently representing Utah at the National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Championship in Frisco, Texas. He has had a decent event so far as Utah is placed second with a score of -41 and is seven strokes behind the leader, Georgia.
The PGA of America is the host for this event, and it posted a video of Jraice Finau breaking down his dad's swing. He gave his remarks and joked that his dad can't fix the issues as he is too old now.
"If he was younger, like 15 or 14, probably a less weak grip and more neutral or strong. So then the face is not so open. But yeah, he's too old, so you can't fix it now," Junior Finau said.
Jraice Finau, as an individual, has had a decent event so far. He teamed up with Emery Johnson on day one for the first round as they carded -3 for the event. They bettered their performance in the second round as they carded -6 for the day, with Utah placed in second place going into the third round.
Why is Tony Finau not competing in the 2024 Black Desert Championship?
Tony Finau is not competing in the 2024 Black Desert Championship this week despite his home state Utah getting a PGA Tour event for the first time in 60 years.
Finau is in Frisco, Texas, this week to support his son, Jraice Finau, who is competing in the 2024 National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Championship. He said even though he was under a lot of pressure to compete this week at the Black Desert Championship, he couldn't miss his son's tournament.
"But I can’t miss my son’s tournament," he told NBC at the Presidents Cup.
"He’s not listening as well as he did when he was younger. That’s exactly how it works. I know exactly how it was. He’s right at that age now where old man doesn’t know what he’s talking about anymore."
The 35-year-old golfer then said his son is very natural, and he has told him if he wants to be great, his work ethic is what is going to get him there.
"He’s very natural when he plays. But I told him, ‘if you’re ever going to be great, like talent takes you to the doorsteps, to ever go through, your work ethic is what’s going to get you there,'" Finau said.
