Xander Schauffele is coming off the best season of his career. He has won two Major championships and is among the top favorites to win the FedEx Cup in 2024. But Schauffele believes Scottie Scheffler had a better year.
When asked about Scheffler during the pre-BMW Championship press conference, Schauffele went beyond praising the World No. 1's sporting results. He also emphasized his quality as a person.
This was part of what Xander Schauffele had to say:
"I've won two times and he's won seven. We both have a lot of top 10s. That's kind of how I'm drawing it up. I know that's how you guys draw it up. But for me, as a competitor, I just have a lot of respect for him."
He added:
"It was cool to get to know him and [Scheffler's wife] Meredith a little bit more at the Olympics, and even Teddy [Ted Scott, Scheffler's caddie], too.
"He's been playing unbelievable golf. I feel like we're all just chasing him. I've done probably the best job of getting the closest to him, but it's still very far away. Just a lot of credit to him and his team for putting together a really special year."
Xander Schauffele has played in 19 PGA Tour events in 2024. He did not miss a cut and had 13 top-10 finishes, including his two Major victories, the PGA Championship and The Open Championship.
Other highlights of his season included top 10s at the Masters Tournament, US Open and 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Scottie Scheffler, meanwhile, has played in 17 PGA Tour events without missing a cut. He has 15 top-10 finishes, including six victories. The highlight of his season was winning the Masters Tournament for the second time in his career.
His wins also include The Players Championship and four Signature Events. To top it off, he won the gold medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
