Tiger Woods is returning to The Masters in the coming weeks. The golfer will tee off alongside the world’s top golfers at Augusta National on April 6. Ahead of this, ace golfer and pundit Curtis Strange has come out to praise the 47-year-old.
Reflecting on Woods’ return from injury at The Masters, consecutive US Open champion Strange said that he believed the 15-time major winner has more to offer. Implying that Woods can still take wins at The Masters, Strange said that the ace golfer “still got something in that body.” Further lauding him ahead of the prestigious Augusta National outing, the 68-year-old added that Woods has the “golf world abuzz” with his return.
Speaking on an ESPN media call ahead of The Masters, Curtis Strange said, as quoted by The Scotsman:
“I think the one thing that always comes to my mind in the last couple years is the walking of the golf course is tough - it's the toughest walk on tour… But, say, he birdies three in a row (on the front nine in the opening round), he gets by nine and ten, struggles at 11, makes a good par putt, then he's got 13 and 15. Next thing you know, the golf world is abuzz.”
He added:
“Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me at all if he got us on the edge of our seat for the first couple of days, but can he sustain it? I think that LA kind of just made me look forward more to the Masters because he's still got something in that body.”
Tiger Woods has now spent multiple months on the sidelines with serious back surgery. The ace golfer has only played in a handful of competitive events since his infamous car crash two years ago. In his last appearance, Woods played all four rounds at the Genesis Invitational in Los Angeles in February. The golfer is now set to make a return and the golf world is excited about it.
Andy North thinks Tiger Woods can't win at The Masters
In the same call with Curtis Strange, two-time US Open champion Andy North also reflected on Tiger Woods’ return. Speaking on the subject, the 73-year-old pro said that it would be “asking too much of Woods” if fans wish to see him win.
Speaking to ESPN, North said:
“I thought what we saw out of him at Riviera, his golf was quite good, and it looked like physically he was better than the last time we had seen him, and that was important. But you're talking a whole ‘nother animal at Augusta National, to be able to get around there is so difficult.”
He added:
“For him it's such an uphill battle. But, in the back of your mind, you still believe that you get something rolling, you just never know. Would it be an amazing story if he could play well and be around on the weekend? Yeah, it would be. But I think people appreciate the fact that he still makes a huge effort to try to be great, and I think that's the beauty of sport.”
The veteran golfer ended the conversation by requesting Woods to “do the best” he can in the competition.
