Renowned golf analyst, Brandel Chamblee is excited about Tiger's return to the golf course after the Genesis Invitational last month. Tiger Woods will be back in action next week as the 2023 Masters Tournament is set to begin on April 6.
Brendal said via an NBC Pre-Masters press release on Tuesday:
"What I saw earlier this year from Tiger Woods made me look forward to the Masters with great anticipation. He certainly has the world of golf’s attention.”
He added that though people can say his results were not extraordinary at Riviera Golf Club, there was more to it than just his scorecard.
"If you look at the combination of the power that he had there and so many of the iron shots that he stacked up on top of one another," Chamblee said in an NBC press release. "And the fact that he showed some great putts on the greens, it certainly has the world of golf’s attention as we enter the Masters."
Chamblee will be the analyst for NBC's Golf Channel and will be seen on the program Live From during Masters week.
"I’ll be curious to see how they play" - Brandel Chamblee is 'curious' to see LIV Golf professionals at the 2023 Masters
There's one major difference between this year's Masters and last year's championship. LIV Golf wasn't in existence during last year's Masters. Several past champions such as Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson, Charl Schwartzel, and Sergio García are now members of the PIF-sponsored league.
This year, we will see Saudi-backed circuit professionals face off against PGA Tour players for the first time. Notably, Augusta National and other major tournaments have not banned PGA Tour defected players from participating in their events.
Chamblee also emphasized this, stating that he was very 'curious' to see how LIV Golf members will compete next week.
As per the NBC press release, Chamblee said:
"I’ll be curious to see how they play once they get to Augusta National, to see if they can make the transition to playing on a golf course that is quite a bit different in setup and the grasses that they’re playing on, where they’ll be playing on this week before they head to Augusta."
"I think to the extent the media there this year will be a little bit different," he added. "There will be, I suspect, a number of media there who are present just to ask LIV questions, some pointed LIV questions, so no doubt that the players that we see in the media center are going to be asked some difficult questions about the decisions they have made to go to LIV."
Chamblee added that he would like to see how the LIV golfers tackle questions from the media and how honest they remain with their answers.
The 2023 Masters Tournament is scheduled to take place from April 6 to April 9 at Augusta National.
