Veteran caddie Kip Henley has accused Bryson DeChambeau of a potential violation of golf's rules. He claimed that DeChambeau's putter's shaft didn't have the minimum ten-degree tilt and looked more vertical.
Kip Henley has been a veteran caddie with experience working with the likes of Brian Gay and, more recently, Grayson Murray. On Saturday, June 15, he stirred controversy on social media when he raised questions about Bryson DeChambeau's putter during the US Open.
Henley posted a still of Bryson DeChambeau on X during the third round of the U.S. Open. He wrote that if he were near the lead for the US Open, he would have asked the USGA to check DeChambeau's putter.
"The shaft has to lean away from head at least 10 degrees. It sure looks vertical. Not being a d**k or hate him at all but it is a rule," he added.
However, Henley's claims didn't find many takes on social media. Most of the fans slammed him for making baseless accusations against Bryson DeChambeau. Here's a look at some of the reactions:
"Heel is up Kip 🤷♂️"
"This is passive aggressive hate defined. Lurk, ambush, pretend to admire the person. 🙄 Genuine concern wouldn’t wait for the targeted individual to be on top."
"Probably should request a driver equipment check too, he’s hitting it too far and straight. Also drug test his caddie @gregbodine7 . He’s way too calm and having too much fun for it being a Us Open," this fan commented.
"As much as he experiments he’s got to know every rule on equipment and uses them to his advantage. Just like the salty balls. First reminded me of church league softball guys leaving their game balls on the dash while at work a day to cook the ball. Then I thought ain’t no way this guy doesn’t know the rules inside out," one user wrote.
"This is a bad tweet. Like Bryson didn’t check his equipment conforms to the rules when he dunks his golf balls in saltwater to make sure they are balanced. 🤡," another user opined.
"Bryson has handled himself in the best light all weekend," one user posted. "Hard not to like him. He’s also one who wears his emotions on his chest which makes it fun. That said I want Aboeg or whatever his name is to win. Kid is sensational!!"
