The PGA Championship welcomed Scottie Scheffler back as he took three weeks off to witness the birth of his newborn, Bennett, back at home. Notably, Scheffler and his wife Meredith welcomed their first child last week. Returning to the game Scheffler started by shooting an eagle at the Valhalla Golf Club.
Scheffler kept his competitive spirit even throughout his off-season at-home practices, playing with friends close to his home in Dallas. Speaking at the pre-tournament press conference, he said:
"I don't really feel like any rust has accumulated, I was able to practice and play a lot at home. I'm able to do stuff at home to simulate tournament golf, especially on the greens, competing and gambling with my buddies, I don't really want to lose to them, either, so I was able to simulate a little bit of competition at home."
The eagle shot was a great start to surpass Xander Schaufelle's nine under 62, which set the record at the PGA Championship on Thursday. However, Scheffler's start won the hearts of the people.

Scottie Scheffler and wife Meredith welcome their first child before the PGA Championship
Scottie Scheffler took a three-week off as he and his wife welcomed their baby boy, Bennett, on May 8. After his big win at the Masters and the RBC Heritage, Scheffler returned home to Dallas to be with her wife Meredith.
Scheffler received lots of wishes from his friends and fellows. Speaking on the PGA Tour, he said:
"Meredith, and we waited, and it was a surprise for us whether it was going to be a boy or girl, so being able to tell my wife that it was a boy, yeah, it was a wild ride. Extremely proud of her, and the look on her face right after birth, she was just glowing, so proud of herself and so excited to have our little boy."
After finishing at T2 last year, Scottie Scheffler is now aiming to continue his impressive form by potentially securing a fourth win in his last five games.
